In Mexico, there are several tax regimes depending on the economic activity and characteristics of the taxpayer. Some of the most common are:
- Fiscal Incorporation Regime (RIF): For small businesses and entrepreneurs with low incomes. (until 2024)
- Salary and wage regime: For employees.
- Lease Regime: For those who rent properties.
- Legal Entity Regime: For companies or corporations.
The annual filing is a procedure where taxpayers report their income, deductions and other tax elements of the year, to calculate their tax liability or balance in favor. If a balance in favor results, the SAT can return it, provided that the tax requirements have been met.
You can obtain your positive balance by completing your annual tax return, which calculates the taxes payable and the corresponding deductions. If the balance is positive, you can request a tax refund.
