What is an electronic signature?

What is a compliance opinion (Opinion de Cumplimiento)?
The compliance opinion is a document issued by the Tax Administration Service (SAT) that reflects whether a natural person or legal entity complies with its tax obligations, such as filing returns and paying taxes on time. This opinion can be positive or negative, depending on the taxpayer's tax behavior.
What is a tax ID certificate (Constancia de situacion fiscal)?
The tax ID certificate is a document issued by the SAT that contains the taxpayer's tax data, such as their Federal Taxpayer Registry (RFC), tax address, tax regime, among others. It is a necessary document to carry out various tax and legal procedures.
What is the RFC and what is it for?
The RFC (Federal Taxpayer Registry) is a unique code that identifies natural persons and legal entities in the Mexican tax system. It is necessary to carry out tax procedures, billing, tax payments, among others.
How often do you have to pay a tax?
The frequency with which taxes must be paid depends on the type of tax and the taxpayer's tax regime. Some taxes are paid monthly, such as VAT and ISR for individuals in certain regimes, while others, such as annual ISR, are paid annually.
What is IVA (VAT)?
VAT (Value Added Tax) is an indirect tax applied to the sale of goods, services and the importation of products in Mexico. Generally, it is 16%, and taxpayers collect it from consumers and deliver it to the SAT.
What are the different types of regimes that exist?

In Mexico, there are several tax regimes depending on the economic activity and characteristics of the taxpayer. Some of the most common are:

  • Fiscal Incorporation Regime (RIF): For small businesses and entrepreneurs with low incomes. (until 2024)
  • Salary and wage regime: For employees.

What to do if the SAT sends you a notification?
If the SAT sends you a notification, you must review it carefully to understand what information or documents they are requesting. Generally, you have a deadline to respond or clarify the situation. It is important to respond on time to avoid sanctions or fines, and if you do not understand the request, you can seek tax advice.
What is the buzon tributario (tax mailbox)?
The tax mailbox is an electronic tool through which the SAT officially communicates with taxpayers. It is mandatory for certain taxpayers, and through it notifications, requests, notices and other tax communications are received.
What is an employer registry?
The employer registration is a unique number assigned by the IMSS (Mexican Social Security Institute) to employers in order to register their workers with this institute, in order to comply with labor and social security obligations.
What is an annual filing and how can I obtain my balance in favor?

The annual filing is a procedure where taxpayers report their income, deductions and other tax elements of the year, to calculate their tax liability or balance in favor. If a balance in favor results, the SAT can return it, provided that the tax requirements have been met.

You can obtain your positive balance by completing your annual tax return, which calculates the taxes payable and the corresponding deductions. If the balance is positive, you can request a tax refund.
